Project 4: SCL Video Project
Special education teachers and other school personnel such as family
resource and youth center coordinators are sometimes the first people
that parents of children with significant disabilities ask when in need
of information about potential community services for their children
who are enrolled in a special education program. On rare occasions,
well-informed parents choose to access the Supports for Community
Living (SCL) waiver program offered through the Kentucky Cabinet for
Health Services---Department of Mental Health and Mental Retardation.
Currently, there is a waiting list of over two thousand people waiting
to receive SCL wavier funding.
This proposed video project is designed to educate special education
teachers and other school personnel such as family resource/youth
center coordinators about the SCL waiver program. Once knowledgeable
about this waiver program, key school personnel will feel more
confident about giving parents the initial information necessary to
make a choice about participation in the SCL waiver program.
The goal of the project is to develop a video that clearly states
a) who is appropriate for the SCL waiver, b) what supports are available
and c) how to get on the waiting list.
