Description

Integrate Kentucky's CRASH and vehicle registration databases for 2008-2011 Background Kentucky's CRASH data system is widely recognized as a model crash reporting system. However integration of CRASH with other components of the state's traffic record system is incomplete. Through the Kentucky Injury Prevention and Research Center's Crash Outcome Data Evaluation System (CODES), CRASH records for 2000 through 2010 have been linked with injury surveillance records, specifically hospital inpatient and emergency department billing records. Additionally, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet and Kentucky Transportation Center routinely link CRASH records with roadway databases. However, integration with several other major components of the traffic records system, including driver licensing, vehicle registration, citation and conviction databases is lacking. Aims (1) The primary purpose of this project is to increase integration of the traffic records system by linking CRASH and vehicle registration databases for 2008-2011. (2) A secondary purpose is to demonstrate the benefits of this integration with a specific traffic safety application involving 15 passenger vans. The information provided by this application will enable more efficient targeting of limited educational and enforcement resources to increase restraint use and decrease crash and injury rates in this high-risk population.
