Description

Position Description for Charlotte Peterson IPA FY2017 Overall Responsibility: The incumbent will oversee the activities of the Consortium Coordinating Center (CCC) and the Clinical Centers of the Molecular Transducers of Physical Activity Consortium (MoTrPAC) and provide guidance as necessary to ensure that these components are contributing to the Consortium's primary goals of assembling a comprehensive map of the molecular changes that occur in response to physical activity and developing a user friendly database that any researcher can access to develop hypotheses regarding the mechanisms whereby physical activity improves or preserves health. Key activities: 1) FY 2017: Coordinate with the NIH staff members who are overseeing the Bioinformatics Center, the Chemical Analysis Sites, and the Preclinical Animal Study Sites to ensure that all aspects of the clinical and animal protocols and the analysis and sharing plans will contribute to the mapping of molecular changes that occur in response to physical activity. 2) FY 2017: Guide the CCC and Clinical Centers as they refine the experimental protocols and documentation necessary for the large clinical study and establish consortium management and coordination policies. The FY 2018 funds are contingent upon the launch of the clinical study; therefore, the CCC and Clinical Centers will be held to a tight schedule. Activities will include a. Communicating NIH's expectations regarding reports and deadlines to the investigators both directly and through participation in MoTrPAC Steering Committee subcommittee meetings. b. Working with the MoTrPAC Coordinators, MoTrPAC Working Group, and NIH Office of Strategic Coordination to ensure that the CCC and Clinical Centers have the resources needed to complete the tasks within budget and within the prescribed timeframe. c. Establishing the metrics on which future performance of the CCC and Clinical Centers will be based. Metrics are likely to relate to recruitment and retention, data and sample collection, and the transfer of materials and information between the Clinical Centers and the CCC and the CCC and Chemical Analysis Sites. 3) FY 2017: Oversee the staffing and organization of the Steering Committee and Subcommittee meetings (in-person and phone/web-based). The primary responsibility for such activities lies with the CCC. 4) FY 2017: Advise the CCC and Steering Committee on the creation, operation, and evaluation of a MoTrPAC Opportunity Funds program. Activities will include a. Establishing strategies for soliciting, reviewing, and prioritizing ideas and for issuing subawards to approved projects from the CCC to the recipient institution in a timely fashion. b. Monitoring the program's administration and success and making recommendations for improvements.
