Description
The Cooperator seeks to conduct a program which is expected to result in:
• Increased public awareness of invasive pests in Kentucky and the dangers of
firewood movement in the spread of those invasive pests.
• Providing information to citizens about the Firewood Scout program and website so
they know where to purchase local or certified heat-treated wood.
• Development of a broader audience awareness of invasive pests and the risks
posed by firewood
The Cooperator will:
a. Coordinate the Invasive Pest Outreach: Focus Firewood project with emphasis on
Firewood Scout and the “Don’t Move Firewood” message.
b. Produce promotional items related to this project.
c. Create a directory of firewood venders in Kentucky on the Firewood Scout site.
d. Have booths at outreach events throughout the year and throughout the state, if
possible. If events are canceled due to the pandemic, we will continue to use
advertisements, post information on our website and Facebook page, and will
distribute materials to the public via state parks, libraries, extension agents, etc.
