Description
Towards a National Landslide Susceptibility Map of the United States
The primary objective of the research opportunity is to develop a uniform and accurate
approach for assessing, mapping, and communicating landslide susceptibility that can be
implemented consistently across the entire U.S., including Hawaii, Alaska, Puerto Rico, and U.S.
territories. The research will leverage existing databases, such as the U.S. landslide inventory
database and high-resolution digital elevation, climate, vegetation, rainfall, hydrology, and
geologic or soils information as model inputs, to develop and test novel approaches for
susceptibility modeling. The proposed research opportunity therefore provides many avenues
for innovative research and original contributions to identify suitable approaches for modeling
landslide susceptibility.
