Grants and Contracts Details
Description
The thrust of the proposed work is to prototype, deploy and apply advanced
measurement instrument and to enable services for accurate network monitoring and indepth
traffic analysis at exchange points of international research and education networks. The
measurement services bring opportunities for big data analysis of measurement data, leveraging
a high-performance, open computing infrastructure.
The project is built on a consortium of academic, industrial partners, network operators, as
well as international alliances, who bring unique expertise and resources to achieve the
objectives of high performance, programmable, flow-granularity network measurement.
The proposed measurement instrument and services will be deployed and operated at strategic
network exchange points to two major network regions (Latin America and China). The network
traffic to be measured is from high-impact science collaborations in research projects carried out
in major developing countries such as Brazil and China. The outcomes (hardware and
software tools as well as knowledge on network traffic dynamics) from this project will
significantly benefit the data driven science discovery in climate change, earthquake prediction
and space weather studies.
Computational resources will be located at the Massachusetts Green High Performance
Computing Center (MGHPCC).
UK Component:
UK will be responsible for developing software and process related to system-wide configuration
and operation of the distributed measurement system.
