Description

Kentucky has significant coal, oil, and natural gas resources. The Kentucky Geological Survey collects data and houses databases for these resources. New data need to be added to these databases and data needs to be compiled in different formats for various needs and end users. The objective of this project is to collect, prepare, and enter Kentucky coal thickness and quality data, black shale TOC and thermal maturity data, and stratigraphic data from subsurface oil and gas wells for the National Coal Resources Data System (NCRDS). This data is compiled at the state level to aid in assessment of energy resources and serves the public purpose of wise resource stewardship.
