Grants and Contracts Details
Description
The Kentucky Geological Survey has proposed a one-year, two-component project to be sponsored by the StateMap component of the USGS NCGMP, following the guidance and direction of the Kentucky State Geologic Mapping Advisory Committee. Project 1 will produce new surficial geologic mapping complemented by modeling to complete a surficial geologic map of the eastern half of Warren County, Kentucky. This new surficial geologic mapping will include the development of methods to automate and complement traditional mapping which will be checked by field examination of landforms, sample collection, and sediment and soil characterization. Project 2 will investigate potential tools and procedures to extract subsurface lithologic data from water well drilling records, and to compute probable subsurface lithologies from geophysical well log records. By incorporating these new lithology attributes into the growing KGS 3D stratigraphic database, we hope to expand the scope of computation/modelling possibilities of the database, and further the StateMap Geoframework initiative.
