Description

The mission of the Kentucky Lung Cancer Research Program is to build a joint initiative of the University of Kentucky and the University of Louisville to reduce morbidity and mortality from lung cancer in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. The Strategic Plan is behind Tab 4. The Kentucky Lung Cancer Research Program addresses three specific objectives set by the General Assembly and reaffirmed by the Governance Board., These objectives include: . Early detection and epidemiology . Development of a statewide clinical trials network . NCIdesignation of the university cancer centers Fiscal resources received by the Program from the tobacco settlement funds amounted to $11,135,000 of for FY 2001 and 2002 (a two-year allocation). The Governance Board dispersed these funds over nine programmatic or support areas identified as critical for advancing the mission and objectives of the Prbgram. These areas include one program, three initiatives, and four cores. In addition, resources to manage the program are allocated to each university.
