Grants and Contracts Details
Description
The Kentucky Geological Survey will continue to cooperate in regional geologic research as part of the Midwest Regional Carbon Sequestration Partnership (MRCSP). This partnership is one of seven U.S. Department of Energy partnerships investigating carbon sequestration or storage options and strategies in the United States. The MRCSP is managed by the Battelle Memorial Foundation in Columbus, Ohio. The Kentucky Geological Survey (KGS) has been part of the MRCSP geologic research team since its beginning. In Phase III, KGS will continue to work with the research team on investigating subsurface geology and geologic carbon storage options in the region, especially those that have the potential to utilize CO2 for enhanced oil or gas recovery. KGS is actively working on the potential to use CO2 for enhanced gas recovery and will work with the MRCSP regional team to extend this research into other areas.
