Description
The Department for Public Health (DPH) and the University of Kentucky Medical Center (UKMC), through the UK School of Public Health are working together to continue the development and implementation of the leadership institute for practicing public health professionals in Kentucky. This institute will assure the highest level of public health knowledge and skills for Kentucky's public health professionals. Additionally, faculty from U of L, Western Kentucky (WKU) and Eastern Kentucky (EKU) are acting as mentors and instructors in the
institute. Over the past year, the Commissioner of DPH has led Kentucky stakeholders in a reexamination of public health, culminating in several change strategies and plans. Additionally public health practitioners are being asked to perform in leadership roles in the national and statewide efforts to be prepared in the event ofbioterrlorist acts. KPHLI prepares leaders necessary for the implementation of many of the changes and challenges facing public health, including recent efforts in preparedness; assists in the development of more community based programs; and prepares leaders capable of assuring the delivery of the 10 essential public health services throughout the commonwealth.
