KHIT-114: Snow and Ice Clearance Route Optimization for District 3-6

Grants and Contracts Details

Description

This research will utilize ArcGIS to analyze the current system of snow and ice removal deployed by KYTC in Districts 3, 4, 5, and 6 to determine if any optimizations to the system are possible. This analysis will include a consideration of the following factors: routes used, location of salt and brine facilities, distribution and type of trucks, time required for road clearance, and associated costs. This project will apply a detailed multi-county route optimization model developed by KTC for the Snow and Ice Clearance program in Kentucky. The model will be applied to all counties in Districts 3, 4, 5, and 6 to identify the potential for optimizations in these counties and produce detailed routes for implementation. Project results will aim to improve the efficiency of KYTC’s snow and ice treatment program and result in cost savings for KYTC.
