KHIT 118: Pavement Forensics

Grants and Contracts Details

Description

KTC will coordinate with KYTC maintenance staff to secure the necessary in-house traffic control to perform the following work items as noted previously in table one and described below: Falling Weight Deflectometer (FWD), Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR), coring, rutting measurements, and pipe inspections. -Perform FWD testing on 250 ft. intervals, and back calculate sub-grade and existing pavement structure modulus values, and stiffness values. -Perform GPR testing on approximately one foot intervals to determine pavement and sub-base thickness variation. -Core pavement structure and hand-dig through sub-base material to sub-grade for verification thicknesses. Identify crack mode (top down/bottom up), and classification of existing sub-base. Additional cores maybe taken to assist with both FWD and GPR data if pavement conditions change dramatically throughout the project. -Collect rutting measurements at each core location in the right and left wheel path.
