KHIT 122 A - Scope for consultant

Grants and Contracts Details

The intent of this pilot project is to assess the feasibility of implementing a network-level pavement structure evaluation program that will ultimately inform more effective rehabilitation, preservation, and maintenance efforts for Kentucky’s roads. KTC will provide project oversight and coordination for this pilot project. KTC will also coordinate with KYTC maintenance staff to secure the necessary in-house traffic control to perform pavement coring and validation testing with GPR and FWD. KYTC is interested in implementing a network level pavement structure evaluation program using Traffic Speed Deflectometer (TSD) testing and ground penetrating radar (GPR), and has reached out to a sub-contractor to conduct a pilot project. The pilot project will be conducted on I-75, MP 23 to MP 73. Resultant data may be used by KYTC to plan future rehabilitation, preservation, and maintenance of the selected roadway. This project will assess the feasibility of such a program and needs to include validation testing to also assess the accuracy of collecting such data at a network level. KTC has performed substantial research using falling weight deflectometer (FWD) and GPR to evaluate pavement structures and thus will provide the coring and necessary validation testing for this pilot project. KTC will also coordinate with the sub-contractor Infrasense, and KYTC to provide overall project management.
