Description
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) proposes to use steel rebars and couplers, and CatStrong Carbon Fabrics to retrofit four Reinforced Concrete (RC) bridge girders on KY 562 over I-71 in Gallatin County, KY. The objective of this project is to carry out the design, replacement of damaged steel bars; replacement of damaged concrete; CFRP and adhesive material specification, procurement, and application supervision; monitoring at all retrofit stages; load rating of retrofitted bridge; and reporting. A researcher (Dr. Peiris) and one program manager (Dr. Harik) from the Kentucky
Transportation Center (KTC) will carry out the retrofit design and oversight of four impacted
Reinforced Concrete (RC) bridge girders on KY 562 over I-71.
KTC will specify and procure the replacement steel rebars and couplers; CatStrong carbon fibermaterial and epoxy adhesives; Zinc primer; ultra violet protective coating; and miscellaneous retrofit supplies (protective gear, application equipment, etc.). KTC will perform monitoring of all stages of the retrofit construction; load rate the retrofitted bridge; monitor the retrofit of the bridge; and submit the reports for the project.
