We propose a novel approach to the fabrication of light-weight and strong materials based on low dimensional forms of Si and the study of their nanomechanics for useful industrial applications. The approach uses state-of-the-art quantum mechanical simulation techniques and can be used reliably for the investigation of structure and nanomechanics of nanomaterials. Simulation results can be used as a guide in the experimental investigations to realize these structures.
