KSGC: Reliable Computing Platforms for Spacecraft, Fellowship for Garrett Chandler

Grants and Contracts Details

Description

Reliable Computing Platforms for Spacecraft James E. Lumpp, Jr. ABSTRACT This document proposes collaboration between researchers at the University of Kentucky, Honeywell Defense and Space Electronic Systems, and The New Millennium Program at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory to develop hardware and software architectures for spacecraft computers. As part of the collaboration, we will evaluate techniques that are being developed at UK for application in the development of the EAFTC Honeywell Architecture being developed as part of the New Millennium Program at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory. This proposal outlines the problem of providing general purpose computing infrastructure in spacecraft and describes a plan for collaboration between Honeywell, JPL and UK to provide solutions. It is intended that this collaboration will yield results that will be tested and flown in the NMP Space Technology (ST8) Mission satellite scheduled to launch in 2008 and it is hoped that the concepts can evolve to become an architecture standard for future spacecraft.
