This five-year statewide Kentucky youth suicide prevention grant will target programming at the individual, peer/family, and community levels to help students feel safer and decrease the risk of suicide attempt. At the individual level this includes enhancing screening for those at risk of suicide, teaching universal safety planning, ensuring follow-up of mental health treatment and creating groups to support individuals and/or families of those who have attempted or died by suicide. Trainings will be related to identifying those students at most risk for suicide and will include gatekeeper training. In addition, the project will focus on means restriction and reduction of secondary trauma on staff. The team at the University of Kentucky will be responsible for all evaluations of this project including required SAMSHA elements, cross-site enhancements and specific focus on enhanced evaluation of universal safety planning.
