Description
Geographic Information Librarianship (GIL) is a two-year research collaboration between the Drexel University and the University of Kentucky responding to the Programs to Build Institutional Capacity project category (July 1, 2012 through June 30, 2014). The project’s goal is to formally introduce geographic information systems (GIS) into library and information science (LIS) curricula. The project’s objectives are (1) to create two online GIL courses that address the important GIL core competencies; (2) to develop a recruitment plan and deliver two online GIL courses at two institutions; (3) to build a model using a survey validation study of the knowledge, skills, and abilities to inform LIS curricula; and (4) to increase GIS related research in LIS. These GIL courses will be permanent courses that will be offered multiple times and infuse GIL education into LIS curricula.
