Description
If the eighteenth century is to be seen as the "Age of Reason," then a crucial story to be told is of the trajectory of philosophy from one of the most ardent proponents of the powers of human reason, Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz, to the thinker who engaged in the deepest reflections about the scope of reason, Immanuel Kant. My project is devoted to just this story: Kant's confrontation with his great rationalist predecessor, Leibniz. I plan to finish a book, Leibniz, Kant, and the Possibility of Metaphysics, which examines and assesses the arguments involved in Kant's critique of Leibnizian metaphysics.
