Description
The Kentucky Department for Public Health Medical Needs Shelter (MNS)
Training course is designed to clinical training information for local health
department (LHD) nurses who are identified to provide nursing care in a local
community MNS setting. The purpose of a MNS is to provide adequate, short
term, supportive medical care during a natural or technological disaster when
a person is displaced from their home or specialized facility and cannot be
accommodated at a general population shelter due to their medical needs.
This training course provides a “refresher” review of the policies and
procedures for nursing skills that are not practiced on a routine basis in the local
health department but may be provided in a MNS.
