Description

Over the last 40 years, Cloudy has relied on the approximation of escape probabilities to facilitate computationally cost-effective radiative transfer in predicting the spectra of astrophysical sources. In the interim, computational methods have been developed that can solve the RT problem exactly and efficiently. We propose to implement the method of short characteristics to solve the equation of radiative transfer in Cloudy. Our work will improve Cloudy predictions for all contexts the code is being widely used for.
