Grants and Contracts Details
Description
The Kentucky demographic and nutrition health data point to the need to implement a project that will increase consumption of fruits and vegetables to increase health and wellness of SNAP eligible families and decrease childhood obesity and risk of chronic disease. The LEAP2 curriculum is an age appropriate, research-based intervention that is unique when compared with other nutrition education services and opportunities geared toward this primary age group. The caregiver newsletter is designed to send key intervention messages and to encourage interaction between children and their caregivers to increase at home offering and consumption of fruits and vegetables. This project targets a category 3 audience. It will be implemented only in schools serving generally low-income students where at least 50% of persons have gross incomes at or below 185% of poverty guidelines/thresholds.
