Grants and Contracts Details

Description

TITLE NASA EPSCoR R3 (E-006): Modal Isolation of Porous Media Thermal Transport Properties INVESTIGATORS PI: Alexandre Martin, University of Kentucky Science-I: John F. Maddox, University of Kentucky ABSTRACT The proposed research activity will be the development of thermal conductivity prediction models for porous insulation materials used in thermal protection system (TPS) for hypersonic and re- entry vehicles. An experimental facility and method for obtaining these measurements with the ability to isolate the modal contributions from solid conduction, gaseous conduction, and radiation has been developed at the University of Kentucky Paducah Campus. This facility will be used to analyze materials of interest to the NASA Entry, Landing, and Descent community.
