Description
The National Health Service Corps (NHSC) is a network of primary health professionals
working in outpatient clinics to increase access to health care in statewide underserved areas.
Incentives to work in designated NHSC approved sites, located in underserved areas, are offered
through the Scholarship and the Loan Repayment Programs.
University of Kentucky Research Foundation (UKRF)/State Office of Rural Health (SORH) shall:
1. Network with individuals and groups statewide listed in the NHSC accepted professions and with
related
university health professional degree programs accepted by the NHSC:
a. Primary Care or Psychiatry Physician (MD or DO)
b. Dentist (DDS or DMD)
c. Primary Care Certified Nurse Practitioner (NP)
d. Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM)
e. Primary Care Physician Assistant (PA)
f. Registered Dental Hygienist (RDH)
g. Health Service Psychologist (HSP)
h. Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)
i. Psychiatric Nurse Specialist (PNS)
j. Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT)
k. Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)
i. Any other clinicians added by the NHSC.
2. Be available as a presenter on the NHSC at available state conferences/meetings. Attendance shall be
preapproved by DPH/HCAB.
3. Provide initial technical assistance statewide for clinicians on applying for the NHSC Loan Repayment
Program and students applying for the Scholarship Programs.
4. Consult with the Kentucky Primary Care Office/ Health Care Access Branch regarding questions or
clarification needed when providing technical assistance to clinicians on NHSC programs.
5. Promote the use and understanding of the NHSC to the public-at-large. Remain updated and trained on
current NHSC regulations and current available resources.
6. Include the NHSC logo and website link as a partner and sponsor on their own website.
7. Promote the NHSC Loan Repayment and Scholarship Programs by:
a. Attend as an exhibitor at a minimum of four (4) statewide conferences for primary healthcare
providers, dentists or mental health clinicians and associations in Kentucky. When exhibiting,
NHSC programs should be equally represented with other programs promoted by KORH.
b. The purchase of promotional items to be used when acting as an exhibitor, including design
imprints, will be pre-approved by DPH/HCAB.
c. Fact sheets for distribution will be obtained from the NHSC Promotional Toolkits/ Resources
available on the NHSC/NHSC Partners website.
d. Provide a minimum of two (2) articles for possible publication to statewide periodicals or
association newsletters. The articles should be shared with the Kentucky Primary Care
Office/HCAB for review prior to official release.
8. Promote the NHSC programs by:
a. Distribute promotional items at professional conferences for healthcare providers and
associations in Kentucky.
b. All promotional items and designs associated with promotional items must be pre-approved
from DPH/HCAB prior to purchasing.
