Project 1 will produce new surficial geologic mapping and associated digital geologic map data for Warren County, Kentucky, following the guidance and direction of the Kentucky State Geologic Mapping Advisory Committee. This new surficial geologic mapping will include lidar-based landscape modeling, field examination of landforms, sediment and soil characterization, and compilation of analytical data and field observations. Project 2 will examine available subsurface well logs, geologic map data, and unpublished cross-sections to better refine stratigraphic correlations and define stratigraphic contact surfaces for the Upper Mississippian series rock strata in western Kentucky, to improve the KGS 3D database and support goals of the US Geoframework Initiative. In cooperation with a pilot project at the USGS, Project 3 will compile a preliminary digital inventory of selected Federal and state geoheritage sites in Kentucky, including attribution for the heritage connections of each site.
