University of Kentucky College of Education P20 Innovation Lab will design and implement a Next Generation Leadership Academy. This Academy will focus on the "how to" of dramatically improving high school and post-secondary graduation rates for ALL students. During the 2011-12 academic year, the Academy will bring together sixty P-12 secondary leaders representing all regions of the state, regional university partners, state and national leaders who will work together to design and build new systems for learning. During Year 2, the first cohort of leaders who have achieved exemplary levels leadership and proof points of implementation will continue in the Academy as mentor to Cohort 2 leaders. Other former participants whose implementation plans are still in progress will continue as members of the Academy network with any needed additional support provided by faculty and Academy Partners. The academy will emphasize critical attributes that characterize new systems of learning: personalized learning, comprehensive systems of learning supports, performance based learning, anytime/anywhere opportunities to learn, authentic student voice.
