Description
The objective of this research is to assemble and implement a set of software tools for the
accurate prediction of the variations in the induced and permanent magnetization of a surface
vessel undergoing vicissitudes in magnetic field and mechanical stresses. For a given sea state,
the hope is to be able to predict the dynamic stresses in the ship, the dynamic changes in the
applied field, and consequently the dynamic changes in the induced and permanent
magnetization of the ship. It is anticipated that this ability will provide degaussing designers an
analysis tool that will allow them to better predict the dynamic changes in the ship’s
magnetization, and hence provide for an improved optimization of the degaussing system.
