Grants and Contracts Details
The 2016-17 Office for the Blind Transition Program is a new collaborative program between local school agencies (LEA), KY Office for the Blind (OFB), KY Department of Education (KDE), and the Human Development Institute (HDI) at the University of Kentucky. The program is designed to assist students eligible for OFB services, ages 14 to 21 years, who have identified work and/or post-secondary education or training as a desired post-school outcome and have demonstrated a need for vocationally related transition services in order to ultimately move from high school to competitive employment. The OFB have identified approximately 500 students who may be eligible for transition services ages 14 to 21. The HDI staff will provide statewide training and technical assistance to LEAs (there are 173 LEAs), OFB, & KDE personnel, as well as, to students who are participating in the program, their parents/guardian, and other local agencies to meet the individual transition needs of the student. The goal of the program is for students to graduate with either competitive employment and/or postsecondary education or training.
