OHS: Annual Traffic Records Assessment Project: 2022 Traffic Records Assessment Implementation

Grants and Contracts Details

Description

Abstract OHS, Annual Traffic Records Assessment Project: 2022 Traffic Records Assessment Implementation 10/1/2022 - 9/30/2023 In February and March of 2022, NHTSA provided a Traffic Records Assessment (TRA) for Kentucky. The KTC project team assisted in this assessment. The goal of the proposed project (continuation) is to continue to assess the quality of Kentucky’s highway safety (traffic records) data and to implement the recommendations of the 2022 TRA. Under the FY22 grant, the project team has developed a draft update Traffic Records Strategic Plan (TRSP). Results of the 2022 TRA will be incorporated into the TRSP, and be available to guide this and other traffic records improvement projects in FY23 and beyond. KTC continues to assist each database in the identification and development of projects to address NHTSA’s recommendations as well as the identification and development of projects to improve all other database attributes. Some projects are underway. But some are not sufficiently developed to justify future investments of the resources needed to accomplish the goals set out in the TRSP. This grant will continue KTC’s assistance to the databases in their effort to develop projects for successful attainment of Kentucky goals for each safety database, and Kentucky safety data as a whole. This project facilitates the goals and metrics for all KY databases and quality metrics; hence, it has no stand- alone metrics. Specific goals and metrics do exist for KY 405 projects. In this project, the Kentucky Transportation Center staff will: • Continue the collection of data for the performance metrics of each database from the appropriate database liaison. • Using staff expertise with records assessments in other states, provide comparisons and generate ideas for further improvements, including links between databases. • Monitor and document progress toward fulfilling the goals and timetables in the strategic plan. • Facilitate discussions with database liaisons to resolve any problems that may arise in the development of projects to meet the goals. • Document any necessary changes in the goals, objectives and strategies of the strategic plan or reasons for delays in meeting the goals and/or completing the projects underway. • Submit a progress report that assesses progress in project development and documents successful project completion. • Update an infographic, or dashboard, to demonstrate the long-term database improvements from 2013 to present, with identification of specific upgrades in the six attributes of each database
