OHS: Kentucky from Above for Traffic Records Improvement
PI: Reg Souleyrette
10/1/2025 - 9/30/2026
Problem Identification: Two important safety features of road data are superelevation and roadside
slopes. Currently, Kentucky does not inventory these features systematically. There is also no
currently practical way to measure on-road cross slopes to promote drainage and reduce the
probability of hydroplaning.
To improve the completeness of Kentucky Traffic Records Data by developing a method to
measure road superelevation using Kentucky from Above LiDAR data.
To improve the completeness of Kentucky Traffic Records Data by developing a method to
measure roadside slopes using Kentucky from Above LiDAR data.
To improve the completeness of Kentucky Traffic Records Data by developing a method to
measure pavement slopes to assure drainage to reduce the possibility of ponding/hydroplaning.
