Grants and Contracts Details
Description
The primary objective of this study is to analyze, summarize, and document crash data and
related statistics for Kentucky highways. Average and critical crash numbers and rates will be
calculated for various types of highways in rural and urban areas. Current Safety Performance
Functions will be published in this analysis. In addition, data will be prepared in a format that can be
used for the problem identification section of Kentucky’s Annual Highway Safety Plan. Among the
general areas of analysis and their relationships to highway crashes will be the following: alcohol
involvement, occupant protection, speed, teenage drivers, pedestrians, bicycles, motorcycles, trucks,
and vehicle defects.
Another product of this project will be preparation of the document titled “Traffic Collision
Facts”. Included in this document are summaries and presentation of crash data obtained from the
automated database (Collision Report Analysis for Safer Highways – CRASH) for all police-reported
crashes in Kentucky.
