Participant Support: LSAMP BD: University of Kentucky, KY-WV LSAMP

Grants and Contracts Details

Description

The Louis Stokes Alliances for Minority Participation (LSAMP) program assists universities and colleges in diversifying the STEM workforce through the development of highly competitive students from groups historically underrepresented (URM) in STEM disciplines: African American, Hispanic Americans, Native Americans, Native Alaskans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders. The goal of the LSAMP Bridge to the Doctorate (BD) activity is to increase the number and competitiveness of URM STEM graduate students with emphasis on doctoral matriculation and completion. KY-WV LSAMP is a collaboration among ten diverse academic institutions and undergraduate research and diversity programs in each community. To build on the success of the program, we propose to support a cohort of Bridge to the Doctorate Fellows. The KY-WV LSAMP will recruit 12 former LSAMP undergraduate participants for STEM graduate degrees at the University of Kentucky. Fellows will receive two years (24 months) of support for graduate study. Those who meet program success requirements will receive continued support from the university to continue in their graduate program(s).
