Description
The University of Kentucky (UK) provides personnel to perform the functions of a Medical Director and
Statewide Administrator for the Reach Out and Read (ROAR) Program. This has funded a part time Kentucky Medical Director/Initiative Coordinator. KY's ROAR Program is the state's only literacy program. The program provides training and technical assistance to providers to implement this program that promotes early language skills and literacy to young children to prepare them to learn, thereby improving children ability to express themselves verbally, increase listening vocabularies, and reduce language delays. University of Kentucky shall provide one well child/pediatric assessment continuing education program annually for local health department nurses. The Department for Public Health does not have the personnel or expertise to perform these tasks.
