Grants and Contracts Details
Description
OBJECTIVES: The objectives of this project are to: 1) document the appropriate installation
and construction procedures to insure adequate pipe performance; 2) review guidelines for
utilization of the various pipe materials, location, fill height, etc; and 3) make recommendations
regarding necessary changes to current procedures.
BACKGROUND: Kentucky currently pennits a variety of pipe materials to be utilized in
various installations across the state. Due to the different physical characteristics of these
materials, comparing the performance of these pipes may be difficult. The Transportation Center
conducted a quick inventory of HDPE pipe installations in 2005 to document their performance to
date. In addition four trial projects are being installed in 2006 to monitor the construction
activities of various pipe materials.
FY 2007 PROPOSED WORK: It is anticipated that installation procedures will be documented
and the guidelines review will be initiated during the 2007 fiscal year.
PROGRAMMED COST FY 2007:
TOTAL ESTIMATED COST:
$100,000
$220,000
