STATEMENT OF WORK
Precision Nitrogen Management of Corn for Improving Farm Profitability and Water
Quality in Southern Illinois
Project period: October 1, 2021 to September 30, 2022
Project investigators: Dr. Joshua M. McGrath
ACTIVITIES
University of Kentucky personnel will support the proposed project by applying pre-plant and side-dress
nitrogen, planting corn, and harvesting grain for two to four field sites in Illinois or in Kentucky close to
southern Illinois. In addition, we will collect NDVI readings from plots during side-dress activities and
map soil electrical conductivity.
The current budget requests to support the proposed project activities (Table 1). The budget
includes personnel support for a Research Scientist I, temporary seasonal help, and contributions by UKY
project PI, Dr. Josh McGrath. Travel funds cover 15 days of travel to field sites for project personnel and
transportation of planter and spray equipment to field sites by University of Kentucky staff. In addition,
we have included funds to cover cost of attendance at annual NREC meeting and one SIU field day to
present on project findings.
