Description

This agreement is in accordance with The Developmental Disabilities Assistance and Bill of Rights Act, PL 106-402. The purpose of this title is to assure that individuals with developmental disabilities & their families participate in the design of and have access to needed community services, individualized supports, & other forms of assistance that promote self-determination, independence, productivity, & integration & inclusion in all facets of community life, throught culturally competent programs authorized under this title. The Ky Council on Developmental Disabilities (KCDD) and Interdisciplinary Human Development Institute (IHDI), University of KY, recognize the need for systematic, preservice training for all health care professionals in adequately addressing thehealth-related needs of persons with developmentel disabilities (DD) and their families. In Year II of this project, HDI will continue to develop, in collaboration with families, consumers, and medical, nursing, dental, and allied health faculty, a training curriculum on the needs of persons with DD and their families that can be infused into existing medicine, nursing, dental, and allied health course work in KY universities and colleges. This curriculum will specifically address the KCDD Five-Year State Plan target: By 2005, 5 schools that train medical, allied health and/or nursing students have in their curriculum practical experiences with individuals with disabilities of all ages.
