Grants and Contracts Details
Description
The local foods movement offers farmers with small acreages opportunities to develop profitable
specialty crop enterprises, and programs such as Kentucky Proud, Buy Local, and Farm to School are
increasing demand for Kentucky specialty crops. The University of Kentucky Center for Crop
Diversification (CCD) will create and update science-based specialty crop marketing and production
resources to help meet the needs of Kentucky farmers who grow, or are considering growing specialty
crops. This project will provide relevant information on crop production and marketing practices,
crop budgets, and Kentucky prices for specialty crops in multiple marketing channels. This project
differs from work done in previous projects by creating new resources, and conducting additional
surveys to aid Kentucky growers as they determine the best ways to market their specialty crops.
This project builds upon work done in previous projects by updating
resources and providing new pricing information.
