Grants and Contracts Details

Description

A grant request is made for the amount of $25,000 to supplement existing previous PACRO funding. This grant request will be applied toward construction and operation of a chemical vapor deposition (CVD) system for feasibility testing toward purification and recovery of radiologically-contaminated nickel. This project has the potential for defining ways and means for recycling radioactively-contaminated nickel ingots stored at the Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant site, and elsewhere. Continuing present levels of costs for securing or disposing of the nickel ingots would be avoided, and the recycled metal may be sold at market prices. Income from such sales would enable the Paducah Area Reuse Organization to continue and expand its efforts in support of displaced workers and in community development.
