Project Goats: o Develop and field test strategies to help all students achieve success in high school mathematics as measured by the ACT (year I and 2). o Develop and field test a course for college bound high school seniors that would require them to solve complex problems utilizing skills and concepts learned in their high school mathematics course work (year 2). II. Project Objectives 9 Objective 1: Continue to increase counselor, teacher, and administer awareness of college readiness standards and work keys information (year I and 2). + Objective 2: Continue to provide teachers with strategies to align ACT college readiness standards to the Kentucky Program Studies (year I and 2). 4 Objective 3: Empower teachers with specific ideas that can be used to raise student performance on summative assessments (e.g., ACT, PLAN, EXPLORE) (year 1 and 2). 9 Objective 4: Develop and use strategies specifically aimed at increasing capacity of special needs students to know and do the mathematics outlined by ACT, ADP benchmarks, Core Content for Assessment, and the Kentucky Program of Studies (year I and 2). + Objective 5: Develop participant and leadership awareness of strategies to ensure that college bound students have the conceptual understanding of mathematics needed to be successful in entiy level college mathematics courses (year 2). 9 Objective 6: Participants will develop a high school course specifically aimed at requiring college bound students to apply skills and concepts learned in their high school mathematics course work to solve complex mathematics problems (year 2). Long-Term Goal: Reduce the mathematics achievement gaps in participating middle and high schools as they increase their understanding of Algebra, Geometry. and Number concepts as measured by the ACT and KCCT. III. DESCRIPTION OF ACTIVITIES The project in year 2 will focus its professional development on what participants are to know and be able to do to support student learning and will be based oa: * ACT EPAS * American Diploma Project (2004) College Readiness Standards * NCTM Principles and Standards for School Mathematics * Kentucky Program of Studies * Core Content for Assessment * District/school aligned curriculum and action plans * EPSB Technology Standards 1
