Quaternary and Surficial Geologic Mapping for Geotechnical and Geohazards Applications in Kentucky

Grants and Contracts Details

Description

This proposal is seeking $162,774 to support new surficial geologic mapping in Kentucky, in areas which have been identified by the Kentucky Geologic State Mapping Advisory Committee as priority areas that need more detailed surficial geologic mapping to meet societal needs. This proposal is designed to support the long-range goals identified by the SGMAC. We propose new surficial geologic mapping of the Kentucky portions of seven 7.5-minute quadrangles (Jeffersontown, Kosmosdale, Mount Washington, Shepherdsville, and Valley Station) in the Louisville Metro region of west-central Kentucky. This project will build upon previous geologic mapping in this region and will allow development of future derivative products for local government officials and agencies. Detailed geologic mapping of surficial materials, including colluvium, and differentiation of alluvium in valley fills will assist state and local decision makers as they pursue infrastructure construction and economic development for the region, as well as develop hazard mitigation plans for the region.
