Under the leadership of the university reading instructors and KDE Reading First Staff, the Reading First (RF) Coach will provide consultative services, professional development, and technical assistance to Reading First districts, schools, primary teachers, and K-12 special education teachers throughout the Commonwealth. The RF Coach will work directly with the District and School Reading First Coaches. The RF Coaches will assist schools in strengthening reading curriculum. instruction, and assessment programs grounded in scientiiically based reading research. The RF Coach will serve as a liaison between the Kentucky Department of Education, public universities, local districts, and various Reading First partner agencies. This position requires travel and frequent overnight lodging. Duties and Responsibilities of Readinq First Coach: Provide leadership, support an professional development for primary classroom teachers and P-12 special education teachers; Provide technical assistance to schools/districts in writing and implementing the Reading First grant proposals; Work col1aboratively, including networking, with other educators to provide assistance to teachers, schools. administrators, and district staff; Develop and deliver technical assistance and professional development related to the implementation of Reading First; Provide technical assistance in scientifically based reading instructional strategies, assessments, and curriculum throughout the reading program and across the entire curriculum; Provide model demonstrations of best practices in classrooms; Identify resources and develop strategies for intervention to address reading/literacy; Collaborate with other education consuhants on initiatives related to reading improvement; Supervise the implementation of reading programs and assess the progress of students in Reading First assigned schools; Assist schools in writing intensive assistance reading plans for targeted students; Provide technical assistance and resources to local district educators in scientifically based reading research programs, professional development, and assessments; Travel throughout the assigned area of the state, to Frankfort, or elsewhere in the state when required, to complete the responsibilities for implementing Reading First; Gather data. prepare and deliver reports to KDE related to Reading First student progress and program implementation; Participate in a Kentucky Reading Project and all related activities; Adhere to established policies and procedures of the Kentucky Department of Education; and Complete other duties related to the implementation of Kentucky Reading First.
