Description
Provide direct rehabilitation engineering services for consumers of OVR. Rehabilitation
engineers will provide technology services for OVR consumers and staff in Western Kentucky,
the Purchase Area, South Central Kentucky, Southeastern Kentucky, Northern Kentucky, the
Carl D. Perkins Vocational Training Center, the Louisville metropolitan area, and in other areas
of the state as needed. These services will include, but not necessarily be limited to: design
and fabrication of custom equipment for job accommodation; seating positioning and mobility
evaluations and recommendations for OVR consumers; assessment and recommendations for
modifications to buildings and environments to eliminate barriers to accessibility; ergonomic
assessment and recommendations for consumer worksites; augmentative communication and
alternative computer access evaluations and recommendations for consumers; assessment
and recommendations for school and work accommodations; implementation of assistive
technology; rehabilitation technology training, research and technical assistance for OVR
staff and consumers; and logistical support to the driver rehabilitation technology program.
These activities will be planned and coordinated with the assistance of OVR staff and outside
consultants with expertise in the implementation of rehabilitation engineering services for
persons with disabilities. This program will utilize OVR rehabilitation technology staff, equipment
and training resources as well as computer systems specialists, rehabilitation engineering
staff, and other technical resources at the Human Development Institute and the University of
Kentucky.
