Research Support – Production of Pitch from Waste Oak Ridge National Lab

Grants and Contracts Details

Description

Abstract The purpose of this work is to develop the scientific understanding and processing technologies to enable safe, efficient conversion of domestic carbon ores and waste coal to high value graphitic carbon fibers for composites, and graphite powders for energy storage. This project will address challenges associated with processing of both native carbon deposits and waste coals, variability in carbon ore feedstocks, and manufacturing scale up from laboratory bench scale to semi-production scale. UK and ORNL have active collaboration on carbon ore derived products.
