Grants and Contracts Details

Description

The visiting professor lecture series would entail having residents spend at least 1 hour with the visiting professor during a weekly grand rounds session. This could potentially be held in conjunction with a dinner the evening preceding the lecture in efforts to ask the visiting professor questions and potentially allow for a second lecture. If time permitted, this instructor could also have a hands-on lab session as well to go over a particular area of their expertise. By bringing in different visiting professors, the residents would get first hand mentoring with leaders in the field. Not only would it add to the educational experience the residents currently receive, but it would allow the residents or fellows to potentially develop relationships with these professors and build upon them as they begin their search for a fellowship or job in the future. As these individuals who would come to talk are leaders in the field of orthopaedics, they have been able to develop a successful model that they could also impart upon the residents should they decide to pursue a career in academic medicine. The number of residents that would be able to attend would be 20 in addition to 3 sports fellows. Regarding success for such a program, we would look at making sure that the visiting professor would be able to deliver a specific topic to the faculty and residents and ensure the time spent with the professor would foster an engaging discussion to follow. The ability to have an evening together prior to the morning grand rounds would help to set the stage for the ensuing morning and bring a more partiCipatory audience to the venue at the grand rounds.
