Description

Component I (To be completed by June 30,2003) The University of Kentucky Training Resource Center (UK TRC) staffwill develop a resource map of the employment and training services available to youth, ages 14 to 21 years of age, by county within each of the ten Local Workforce Investment Areas ofthe Commonwealth of Kentucky. This process will include efforts to ascertain accurate and pertinent information about each organization providing educational, employment/training and supportive services for youth. Project activities will include telephone surveying of youth programs throughout the state as well as focus groups with involved partners that will help identifYservice array issues. A comprehensive list of youth services will be generated by UK TRC staff in an electronic format such that it can be easily maintained and updated by the Local Workforce Investment Area staff. In addition, the electronic file will be formatted to allow for easy printing of hard copies for distribution. UK TRC will also provide an electronic version of the list that can be incorporated into an interactive website that will allow cross-comparison of survey elements, including comparison by Local Workforce Investment Area. The website will be maintained on the UK TRC server allowing for linking fi.-omwebsite maintained by the Department for Training and ReEmployment and other invested partners. Component II (To be completed by July 31,2003) UK TRC staffwill analyze the findings of Component I to identifYservice needs, available resources, and service gaps relating to provision of youth services in each of the ten Local Workforce Investment Areas and throughout the state. A written summary of the findings will be generated and submitted to the Department for Training and ReEmployment. Component III (To be completed by July 31, 2003) In accordance with the results of the data analysis in Component II, UK TRC staffwill formulate recommendations for youth services within each of the ten Local Workforce Investment Areas and within the state that are in alignment with the Workforce Investment Act and the needs of youth as previously identified. A written summary of the recommendations will be generated and submitted to the Department for Training and ReEmployment. In addition, UK TRC will make formal presentations of the findings and recommendations to the Department for Training and ReEmployment, the ten Local Workforce Investment Areas, and the Kentucky Workforce Investment Board Youth Committee. A PowerPoint presentation will be developed for presentation purposes and submitted to Department of Training and ReEmployment staff for subsequent use. A high-quality information piece, 3 - 4 page leaflet, presenting a brief summary of the findings and recommendations will be developed and printed for distn"bution at the aforementioned presentations by UK TRC staff and by invested partners.
