Description
The work proposed through this REU funding request will focus on the replication of seminal experiments in software testing and defect predication using TraceLab. The proposed research builds on prior work we have performed in the tracing arena and may involve surveying seminal testing papers, developing or re-implementing testing algorithms, applying machine learning algorithms, defining or re-implementing defect prediction algorithms, developing TraceLab components to apply or implement seminal techniques, conducting experiments to compare techniques, and finally analyzing and reporting results. The proposed work is directly relevant to the objectives of my CI-EN grant.
The student I have identified to work with me is Yu Luo. Her resume is attached at the end of this request. She is a Computer Science major and currently has a GPA of 4.0 of 4.0 and is an undergraduate at the University of Kentucky (UK). Yu has taken Algorithm Design and Analysis and Introduction to Software Engineering. In addition, Yu is taking my course this semester (Senior Design) and is one of the top students in the class. Yu is well qualified to work on our research project, and I believe this experience could encourage her to pursue a future research career.
Yu will join a team of researchers in the Software Verification and Validation Laboratory at the University of Kentucky. Our team includes: a PhD student in coursework phase, who has conducted prior work on requirements testability prediction and correlation analysis applicable to our proposed work; an MS student working on applying machine learning techniques to defect prediction using TraceLab; several MS students working on various projects such as evaluating software architecture design principles for cloud computing; as well as two students (one MS, one PhD) currently working for Dr. Tingting Yu, an assistant professor and expert in software testing who shares our lab space at UK.
