Scope of Work
RII Track-2 FEC: Membrane Purification Platform for Continuous Biomanufacturing of Virus
Particles in Arkansas and Beyond
Subcontract to University of Kentucky from University of Arkansas
The University of Kentucky collaborators will produce pseudotypep virus particles and virus-like
particles (VLPs) for testing of separation strategies for viral vectors. Synthesis and
functionalization strategies for microfiltration, ultrafiltration and nanofiltration membranes
comprising organic, inorganic, and composites will be developed for viral vector separations,
with a particular focus on opportunities to separate full/empty capsids. Besides advancing
overall virus separation strategies, the ability to create higher concentration full capsids with
minimal empty capsid impurity will advance health related applications immensely. As more
complex viral vector systems become available from the collaboration with the University of
Arkansas, the separation and purification of these systems will be examined using the
membranes developed by the University of Kentucky.
