RSF 109, KATS Streamlining Maintenance HP-ITD 2020
Research
Data Collection
Currently, several of the computers being used at each Kentucky Automated Truck Screening (KATS)
location are running Windows 7. Microsoft is no longer supporting Windows 7 and that puts the machine and the
data at risk for security issues. In order to resolve the end-of-life problems associated with Windows 7 and to
maintain the security of the systems, Kentucky would like to change all current KATS workstations to Linux
operating systems. In order to do that, a new Linux based computer would need to be purchased for each site. This
move would allow changes to be made that makes the entire KATS system more flexible and efficient allowing data
quality issues to be resolved much more quickly and easily and strengthen the data pipeline.
