RSF 84, Expansion of Thermal Imaging - High Priority ITD

The objective of this project is to increase the number of brake and tire-related violations identified through inspection and thereby improve safety on Kentucky's roadways by installing, integrating and evaluating two manual thermal brake screening systems at fixed inspection stations in Kentucky. The identification of these violations should lead to an increase in the vehicle out-of-service (VOOS) rates at the chosen facilities. The goals of this project are to: *Identify the locations and select a vendor to supply the thermal brake screening systems for fixed inspection stations in Kentucky. *Install two manual thermal brake screening systems at fixed inspection stations in Kentucky. *Train enforcement personnel in effective use of the system. *Evaluate long-term safety impact by analyzing the impact of the system on inspection performance, vehicle out-of-service rates,
